Overview
Hives are red, raised bumps that appear on the skin. Hives are occasionally itchy. They usually come about as a result of some sort of allergy, either to a food or a drug. However, hives are sometimes also caused by stress or infections. Generally, hives go away on their own, but some people prefer to get rid of them with medication. There are also various natural hive remedies and treatments available as well.
Mint
Mint is often used as a natural hive medicine. Mint has a cooling and calming effect on the skin. It can be used for relaxing the irritation and discomfort (such as the itching) caused by hives. Mint ice cubes (made with crushed mint leaves, boiling water and an ice cube tray) are an effective way to apply them to the skin. Directly putting them over inflamed, itchy hives will calm them and make them less inflamed.
Essential Oil
Essential oils, in particular sandalwood, are another great natural hive treatment. This natural hive medicine is derived from Native Americans, who believed that hives were a condition based on "fire." Sandalwood essential oil is well known for both its soothing and cooling effects on the skin. Just add a few drops of sandalwood essential oil over a cotton ball, and gently apply it to the skin.
Ginger Bath
Taking a ginger bath is an excellent way to soothe, treat and relieve hives that are causing discomfort on your skin. Cut half a pound of ginger into pieces and then mix it with 1 gallon of hot water. Allow it to simmer for about 10 minutes. Add it to your normal bath water to create a calming and healing treatment. Bathe in the ginger bath for about half an hour.
Oatmeal Bath
Oats are another great natural remedy for treating and curing hives. Oatmeal baths are extremely relaxing and very rapid at clearing up and calming down hives. Fill up a sock entirely with oatmeal. Then, as you are running the water for your bath, put the sock into the running water, so the water passes through the sock on its way into the tub.
Green Tea
Not only is green tea renowned for having weight loss stimulation properties (and for being an excellent antioxidant, as many other teas), it is also believed to help hives clear up faster than they would naturally. Drinking green tea on a consistent basis (about 2 cups every day) should help your hives go away quickly.
