There are literally hundreds of herbals that have blood cleansing properties. The concepts of holistic health focus more on maintaining a picture of whole body health naturally, rather than attacking illnesses with more toxic medicines when the onset of serious illness does arrive. One of the ways that you may help maintain whole body health is by using blood cleansing herbals. These are treatments meant to flush out harmful and unnatural materials that are stored in your body. You might ingest these toxins, or you may be exposed to them through environmental conditions. Effects of these toxins may include allergies, headaches, skin irritations, lack of mental focus, decreased ability to cope or adapt to situations, and an overall ill feeling. Extensive exposure to toxins without any purging agent can enable infection, decreased immune function, heart disease and cancer.

Types

Marigold has several uses, from treating skin disease to internal inflammation.

Marigold has several uses, from treating skin disease to internal inflammation.Blood cleansing naturals all work in different ways. Each is meant to support whole health while expelling toxins or toning your natural filters. Bitter herbs are often used as liver toners, which are meant to encourage your liver function, keeping your system cleaner. Diaphoretics stimulate the sweat glands and encourage the body to sweat out toxins that would normally be stored throughout your system. Diuretics accelerate the rate at which your body processes fluids through the kidneys. These will help expel toxins through your urine more readily. Finally, lymphatics will act on the lymph system. You may recognize lymph nodes as the things that swell in your neck when you have strep throat or an ear infection, but they are actually throughout your body. The lymph system is like the quality assurance system that checks your body fluids for signs of a need for an immune response. Lymphatics will stimulate the lymph system for increased immune support.

Marigold (Calendula Officinalis)

Nettles are also called common nettles and stinging nettles.

Nettles are also called common nettles and stinging nettles. These beauties are not just nice to look at, but also very beneficial to the body. Marigolds have antiviral and anti-fungal properties. They are commonly used for digestive health, as well as applied to help soothe skin disorders. The calendula plant is currently being studied for possible anti-tumor use. Marigolds are used as blood cleansers, as they are effective in decreasing internal inflammation as well as pharyngeal or oral mucosa. To create a marigold tea, pour 8 oz. of boiling water over 2 tsp. of flower heads. Allow this to steep for 15 minutes and drink up to three times daily. If you wish to use calendula topically, there are commercial ointment preparations. Follow directions carefully for proper effect.

Nettle (Urtica Dibica)

Burdock is a diuretic and helps maintain balanced blood sugar.

Burdock is a diuretic and helps maintain balanced blood sugar.Nettles are diuretics that stimulate the kidneys. They are also used as an arthritis regimen and are very nutritious. You can find iron, calcium, zinc, and vitamins A and C in the nettle. Nettles can be used in tea form by pouring 8 oz. of boiling water over 2 tsp. of dried nettle leaves. Another common tea used for blood cleansing is 1 tsp. nettle leaves and 1 tsp. dandelion leaves steeped for 10 minutes in 8 oz. boiling water. If you would prefer to cash in on the power of fresh nettles (as they are found commonly throughout the United States), place a generous handful into a quart-sized jar. Fill the jar with boiling water. Cover the jar and allow to sit for at least 2 to 3 hours, occasionally giving a gentle shake. Nettle can also be purchased in commercially prepared supplements. Follow package directions for use.

Burdock Root (Arctium Lappa)

The burdock root is useful for balancing your blood sugar, has diuretic properties, and is used as an antiseptic. There are polymers in the burdock root that may decrease the likelihood of cancer by suppressing mutagens. It has also been rumored to decrease the rate of tumor growth. Both of these statements have not yet been conclusively proven through clinical testing. If you plan to use burdock root, bear in mind that it can interact negatively with anti-hypertensives and anti-diabetics. To create a burdock tea, mix 1 generous tbsp. of powdered burdock root with 3 cups of boiling water. Allow to steep for at least 15 minutes and strain through a cloth. Drink a glass before each meal. If you prefer to use fresh root, you may eat one whole well-cleaned, freshly dug root before each meal. It is best to consult with your physician before going forward with any herbal remedies because even herbal supplements can interact with conventional medicines and each other.
