Natural Ways of Lightening Hair

natural ways of lightening hair : :
There are several different natural ways of lightening hair using easily obtainable herbs and food products. These methods are most effective on light brown to dark blonde hair. They may not be as effective on brunette to black hair, although very light highlights may be achieved. Many of these treatments require several applications, but they will work if you stick to it. Plus, they will not cause any damage to your hair like their chemical counterparts.

Chamomile

Chamomile is a small, white and yellow flower that can effectively lighten light brown to dark blonde hair. It can be used as a rinse or a dye, with the dye being more effective. For a rinse, add one four tablespoons dried chamomile flowers to one pint of boiling water, steep for 1 to 3 hours and then strain. Rinse the hair several times, using a basin to catch the excess and pouring it back over the hair. For a dye, prepare the infusion as described above, and then combine ½ cup of the liquid with ½ cup kaolin clay. Apply the paste to the hair and leave on for up to 60 minutes before rinsing thoroughly.

Rhubarb Root

Rhubarb root is an extremely effective natural way of lightening hair. Even the first application will result in golden highlighted hair. Simmer 4 tablespoons of rhubarb root in 1 ½ pints water or white wine. White wine is sticky but ultimately more effective. Allow the mixture to steep for 2 to 4 hours, then strain. Rinse through the hair several times. If possible, sit in the sun after rinsing to enhance the color and strengthen the effect of the root.

Lemon Juice

Lemon juice is a natural, effective hair lightener. It can be hard on hair and skin if applied undiluted. Instead, try applying a solution made of 1 tablespoon lemon juice combined with 2 cups of water directly to the hair. Repeat this treatment daily until the desired hair color is achieved. The process can take a few weeks before noticeable results are attained, but it will be safe for your hair and prevent it from drying out. Sitting in the sun while the lemon juice is on the hair will enhance the lightening process.

Hydrogen Peroxide

Hydrogen peroxide is nothing more than water with an extra molecule of oxygen, and when used properly it is a safe, natural way to lighten hair. It should only be used on blond, light brown or red hair. Using peroxide on black or dark brown hair could cause the hair to turn orange. To use, fill a spray bottle with 3-percent hydrogen peroxide purchased from a drug store. Spray directly onto hair and comb through with a fine-toothed comb. Leave on for 30 minutes to 1 hour and then rinse thoroughly. If you use this method of naturally lightening your hair, avoid chlorinated swimming pools as it can have a bad reaction with peroxide, turning your hair green or orange.
