Overview
Many people who are afflicted with hyper-pigmentation are always looking for ways to lighten their skin effectively and safely. Your doctor can prescribe skin lightening cream for you if you want to go that route. However, if you're worried about chemicals and possible side effects, you can lighten your skin naturally. You might even have many of the ingredients to lighten your skin in your refrigerator.
Step 1
Consider the three P's. For this recipe, you will need papaya, pumpkin and pineapple. More specifically, you will need three tablespoons each of ripe pumpkin, green papaya and pineapple. Blend the three ingredients together to a paste-type consistency using a blender or a hand blender. Apply this concoction to your face for at least 20 minutes and then rinse off with warm water. If you would rather use a peel-off mask, just add one packet of unflavored gelatin and a ½ cup each of pumpkin, papaya and pineapple. Heat the ingredients together until the gelatin has dissolved; then let it cool. Spread it on your face and peel off after 20 minutes. Both mixtures keep for three days if you keep them refrigerated.
Step 2
Use this milk-based recipe. For this recipe to lighten your skin color naturally, you will need one teaspoon of milk powder, one teaspoon of lemon juice and ½ teaspoon of almond oil. Mix the ingredients together into a paste consistency. Apply it to your face and leave it on for about 10 to 15 minutes. Rinse with warm water. You can also use turmeric powder with lime juice to help lighten a tan.
Step 3
Take vitamin C. Taking a daily dose of vitamin C at about 500mg of ascorbic acid is an antioxidant used to lighten skin. Most people take 500mg of vitamin C while they are using other skin lightening creams. It will take several months to notice a difference so it's recommended that you use it along with other natural remedies. Vitamin C helps promote healthier skin while inhibiting melanin production.
Step 4
Use licorice extract. Licorice extract contains glabridin, which is a natural skin whitener. Apply a thin layer of it in the morning and night after you have washed your face and before you moisturize. Before you use the extract, apply a small amount to the back of your arm to make sure you aren't allergic to it. You can find licorice extract at any health food store or online (see Resources).
