Overview

healthy coffee smoothie recipes : Overview
Chains like Starbucks have created a craze for frozen coffee drinks. But what happens if you don't have a chance to make it by Starbucks or your local smoothie shop in the morning, or you just want to make your own healthy coffee smoothie? Do-it-yourself smoothie recipes not only save money, they give you the peace of mind of knowing exactly what's in your smoothie--like this easy and nutritious banana coffee smoothie.

Step 1

Combine all ingredients, except for ice, in a blender. Start the blender on a "high" or "ice crush" setting.

Step 2

Put the ice into the blender while it's on, until all the ice is in the blender.

Step 3

Blend until smooth. If the mixture is too thick, add more Almond Breeze.

Step 4

Serve in a tall glass with a straw.

Step 5

Create variations on this recipe by leaving out the banana or chocolate, changing the Almond Breeze for regular skim milk or soy milk, or adding PB2--a low-fat powdered peanut butter (see Resources). More coffee can also be added depending on how strong of a coffee taste is desired. By using the basic ingredients of instant coffee, ice and milk or a milk-like product, a variety of smoothies can be created by adding or changing ingredients.

TIPS AND WARNINGS

  • TIP : Made with the ingredients listed in the main recipe, this smoothie has about 220 calories and 3 grams of fat. Other ingredients will change the nutrition slightly.
