Natural homemade cleaning products contain ingredients that are safe for use at home around humans and pets. Natural household cleaning products don't emit the harsh fumes of store-bought cleansers. These products are biodegradable yet tough enough to clean every part of the home. These simple homemade cleaning products can be made easily at home from products that you probably already have in your cupboard.
Ingredients
You can make just about any cleanser with six products that you might already have around the home. White vinegar, baking soda, lemon, salt, olive oil and borax are all-natural products that you can use to formulate your homemade household cleaning products. See Resources below for ideas and recipes for making natural homemade cleaning products.
Baking soda works as a natural deodorizer as well as a mild abrasive to clean tough stains. Borax deodorizes and provides strong cleaning needed for bathrooms. Vinegar is a natural antibacterial agent as well as a deodorizer. Lemon removes stains, cuts grease and is a bleaching agent. Salt is a natural abrasive that can be used to clean pots and pans. Olive oil can add shine to your wood furniture and floors.
All-purpose Cleanser
A mixture of 1/2 cup vinegar and 2 cups water can clean a number of items in your home. This all-purpose solution can be used on sinks, floors, counters and toilets as a natural antibacterial cleanser. Try using this mixture for glass and mirror cleaning. White vinegar is biodegradable and a natural deodorizer.
Adding 1 cup baking soda to your mixture increases scrubbing and deodorizing power. Baking soda functions as a mild abrasive to tackle soap scum and hard water deposits. Baking soda is a safe scouring powder that doesn't emit fumes or a chemical smell.
Furniture and Hardwood Floor Polish
You can simulate the lemon scent of traditional furniture polish with an all-natural version of your own. Mix 1/2 cup lemon juice and 1 cup olive oil in a spray bottle and shake well. Spray this mixture on a dry cloth and polish the surface as you would normally. Make a larger batch to polish wood floors.
Bathroom Cleansers
Borax is a natural disinfectant and deodorizer than can be combined with other natural products to create cleansers for even the toughest household cleaning jobs. Mix 1 cup borax with 1/2 cup white vinegar to clean the toilet bowl and soap scum in the shower. Remove mildew in the show with a mixture of borax and lemon juice; make a paste, allow the mixture to sit for 15 minutes and then rinse. Use full-strength white vinegar on bathroom countertops, faucets and toilet seats as a natural way to fight bacteria.
