Family HealthWhether you are a sexually active man or not, sexual health is a concern for all men. Sexual health goes far beyond just sexually transmitted diseases or sex-related disorders, but can also include many health problems that affect the organs and systems of the body that are uniquely male. Realizing this, and taking care of your body's reproduction system through preventive methods and regular check ups, is essential to living a long and healthy life.
Sexually Transmitted Diseases
Sexually transmitted diseases are one of the largest factors facing men's health today. According to WebMD there are six main STDs that effect men today. These are HIV/AIDS, Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, Herpes, Syphilis, and HPV. These diseases can affect not only the penis, but also the anus, mouth and eyes. Wearing a condom every time you have sex is one of the best ways to protect yourself against STDs. If you are sexually active with multiple partners you should also get tested at least once every six months. This is especially true if you are having sex with other men.
Cancer
Testicular and penile cancer are also sexual health issues that are important to keep in mind as you begin to age. Regular self check ups, as well as yearly doctor physicals will help catch these issues before they become too serious to have a good chance of treatment success.
Erectile Dysfunction
Erectile dysfunction (ED) is one of the most common sexual health problems that men deal with. ED is the inability to achieve or sustain an erection hard enough, or long enough to have sex. Erectile dysfunction can be caused by both psychological and physiological reason, and can be treated with ED medications.
Ejaculation
Problems with ejaculation during climax is another common sexual health issue that many men deal with. The two most common types of ejaculation issues are premature and delayed ejaculation. Premature ejaculation is letting go of your semen too soon, or being unable to control when you ejaculate. Delayed ejaculation occurs when you are unable to willfully ejaculate in a time period lasting more than 30 minutes. There are few medications available for these issues, but with exercising and psychological training, many are able to get their ejaculation issues under control.
Hygiene
Hygiene is one of the most important aspects of male sexual health. This is especially important for men who are uncircumcised. Cleaning around the groin as well as inside the foreskin helps prevent bacterial infection of the groin and penis, as well as common fungal infections such as jock itch.
