Traning for a marathon
All of my turning-40 friends seem to have adopted a perverse need to run a marathon. I enjoyed today's New York Times article on walk-run training. I think IF I were to suddenly have the need to prove myself in a race, then this is the sort of training I could sign up for. There are several elements of this style that I find interesting. One is that you walk at a certain time break—not just because you are tired. So some might walk every 5 minutes. Others might walk every mile, or more or less frequently. Also, the training consists of running 3 days a week, with 2 of the three being easy runs. The article says that scheduling walk breaks BEFORE you’re tired allows you to recover more quickly and finish stronger.
